This 4-day Sahara Desert Tour from Marrakech to Erg Chegaga will take you to the wild beauty of southern Morocco. To get to the remote dunes of Erg Chegaga, you have to cross the Atlas Mountains, old kasbahs, and huge desert landscapes. There, you can go camel trekking, spend the night in a desert camp, and see some of the most beautiful sunsets in the Sahara. It’s a real adventure away from the crowds.
Departure at 08:00 from your accommodation in Marrakech. The journey begins by crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, offering panoramic views and opportunities for photo stops.
Continue to Ouarzazate, considered the gateway to the Sahara Desert, where lunch will be taken. After lunch, drive through the Draa Valley, the longest valley in Morocco (approximately 1,100 km), located at the foothills of the Anti-Atlas Mountains. Along the route, enjoy views of palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and traditional villages.
Dinner and overnight at your accommodation in Zagora.
After breakfast, depart toward M’Hamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the desert. En route, visit the village of Tamagroute, home to one of the oldest Quranic libraries in southern Morocco, as well as a traditional pottery workshop. Lunch will be hosted by a local Berber family in M’Hamid. In the afternoon, continue off-road toward the impressive Erg Chegaga dunes, crossing diverse desert landscapes including hamada (rocky desert) and sand dunes. Erg Chegaga is one of the most remote dune systems in Morocco, offering absolute silence and untouched scenery. Enjoy a camel ride across the dunes and witness a spectacular sunset over the golden sands. Dinner under the
stars beside a campfire, with traditional music and entertainment by local nomads.
Overnight in a desert camp.
After breakfast, continue through approximately 80 km of desert terrain with changing landscapes.
Cross the dry Lake Iriki, explore fossil-rich areas, and follow sections of the historic Paris–Dakar Rally route to Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert where the paved road resumes. After lunch, proceed to Taznakht, a Berber village renowned for its handmade carpets and rugs.
Continue to Ouarzazate, arriving in the late afternoon.
Dinner and overnight at your accommodation in Ouarzazate.
After breakfast, optional visit to the famous film studios of Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village used as a filming location for many international productions such as Gladiator and
Lawrence of Arabia. Enjoy a guided walk through the ksar to admire its traditional Moroccan earthen architecture. The journey continues through the scenic Ounila Valley to visit Telouet Kasbah. Lunch can be taken in Telouet.
Arrival in Marrakech in the evening, marking the end of the
